What is the impact of a specific event on the respondents’ QWL?

The QWLSI© measures the impact of a specific event, situation or factor (e.g., relocation of a business) on the quality of working life. An impact measurement graph will be generated if this option is selected.

The dots on the graph stand for the real QWL scores after occurrence of the event. The solid line shows the quality of life people imagine if the event had not occurred (e.g., what would the QWL be if the company had not relocated?).

If the dots are to the left of the solid line, the relocation had a harmful effect, if the dots are to the right, the effect was beneficial.

The distance separating the dots from the line shows the magnitude of the event’s impact.

It is important to note that impact measurement can also be used to evaluate the effects of a change that the company or person would like to make.

In the example, the impact of relocation is evaluated. It is easy to see that this event caused deterioration in the real QWL because the dots are very often to the left of the line and rarely to the right of it. The “Workplace” domain is a good illustration of impact measurement. The employees’ QWL is in the Desirable Adjustments range but would be in the Good Quality of Life range if the relocation had not occurred. On the other hand, the “Feeling of belonging” domain benefited from the relocation.
